About Us

North Cornwall's BC Radio was founded in early 2010 by Aaron James, Jamie Howard, Jonathan Arthur, Andrew Arthur, Conor Wilson & Tim Peters with the aim of bringing North Cornwall their own community radio station.

Our mission is simple- to bring North Cornwall a radio station that is locally relevant, engaging, interactive and most of all entertaining. We want North Cornwall to be proud of our on air output.

What does the BC stand for in the North Cornwall's BC Radio?

The BC doesn't stand for anything in particular when referring to this station. Our team originally came from the Bodmin Community Radio project, that after lots of evaluation, spreadsheets, tea drinking and meetings was deemed a project that would find it difficult to make ends meet. When creating this project, we therefore decided to refer to the stillborn project in our name, hence the BC Radio but in this name it is literally just BC as a reference, our name certainly isn't North Cornwall's Bodmin Community Radio- because we serve more than just Bodmin, we serve North Cornwall.

What makes this project so different from other community radio stations?

All community radio projects are a great addition to the community, don't get us wrong. However in the team we feel that while they are a great service, they aren't properly relevant to their audience. Often, the playlist is dictated by what the presenter wants to hear, and while that certainly adds a personal touch, it creates a niche for only a small amount of the community. We feel that a radio station should be relevant to its audience. That means providing a music variety that the listener wants to hear. Our playlist (see the On Air Content section for more information on our Programming) is designed to please as many people, as much of the time as is actually possible. We can't please everyone, no one can it's just not possible.

That's why our playlists are centrally scheduled by our Head of Music, Dave Gould. Dave is a man with a lot of experience in radio, in fact he's getting to be a bit of a radio old-timer and he isn't even 30!! He knows from experience how to make a playlist sound great on air. People tune into radio stations for the music offered, not the person behind the microphone talking. We're like a shop. We want you to come again. Not go shopping somewhere else, to come and shop with us again.
